    Our Offer to You:

    Site:  Joffre, Alberta

    Schedule: 6 days on, 1 day off, 12 hours per day for the first 2-3 weeks. Then switch to 4 days on, 3 days off. 
    Start Date: July 14, 2025, Work anticipated for 4-6 weeks.

    Stuart Olson is currently hiring an experienced Industrial Machinist to support operations at a large-scale petrochemical facility. This role involves the precision machining, repair, and maintenance of critical mechanical components used in high-pressure, high-temperature industrial environments.

    The ideal candidate will have experience working in industrial or energy-sector facilities and a strong commitment to safety and quality.

    Responsibilities

    • Assisting with lapping duties
    • Working with pistons
    • Valve rebuilds
    • Other machining-related tasks
    • Perform precision machining to tight tolerances using lathes, milling machines, boring mills, and grinders
    • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and process specifications
    • Conduct in-place machining and equipment fit-up when required
    • Collaborate with maintenance and reliability teams during turnarounds and outages
    • Adhere to site safety procedures and participate in toolbox talks, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and permit-to-work systems
    • Document machining work and ensure traceability per QA/QC standards

     Qualifications

    • Journeyperson Machinist certification preferred (Red Seal preferred or provincial equivalent). Will consider Journeyman Millwright with Machinist experience
    • 3–5+ years of machining experience in an industrial setting (preferably petrochemical, oil & gas, or power generation)
    • Familiarity with rotating equipment commonly found in petrochemical plants
    • Strong understanding of tolerances, surface finishes, and fitment requirements
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications
    • Commitment to working safely and efficiently in a high-risk environment
    • Valid safety certifications such as CSTS 2020
    • Must have reliable transportation
    • Pre-Access Drug and Alcohol testing

    Working Conditions

    • Working in and around noise and dust
    • Working both indoors and outdoors in hot and cold weather conditions
    • Must be clean shaven
    • Personal safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots,

     Physical Requirements

    • Physical ability to lift up to 50lbs; occasionally lift items weighing more than 50 lbs. with assistance
    • Stand or walk for long periods of time
    • Use arms and hands to reach for, handle or manipulate objects
    • Climb up and down ladders, scaffolds and other objects

  • Scheduler – Turnaround

    Responsibilities:

    • Work with the client’s technical team to clearly understand the detailed scope and develop planning steps, assign resources, logic, priorities, and prepare job package binders.
    • Be accountable for scheduling architecture and coding to align with the overall turnaround execution strategy.
    • Lead the development of an integrated Primavera schedule that includes Operations, Maintenance, Reliability and Engineering, Sustaining and Growth Capital projects for the lifecycle of a turnaround event.
    • Identify training needs to support scheduling, development, reporting and tracking.
    • Develop reporting and analysis methods such as, but not limited to; earned value, progress vs. planned, critical path reporting methodology and cost performance index.
    • Ensure the IT infrastructure is in place to support the scheduling function during critical phases of execution.
    • Maintain reporting systems for ensuring that documentation is accurate and timely.
    • Producing and providing frequent reports for the TA execution team.
    • Collaborate with planners in development of work order task lists to ensure high standard of SAP data integrity (including the WBS/AFE structure), in the correct structure to facilitate automated integration with Primavera.
    • Work closely with Responsible Care, Maintenance, Operations, Process and Engineering personnel in development of turnaround priorities, resolve execution issues and provide leadership in troubleshooting and problem solving.
    • Lead schedule optimization activities with turnaround planning and execution leads.
    • Own the scheduling procedure, lessons learned and best practices.

    Turnaround Strategy:

    • Schedule and monitor all resource constrained activities for Phase 2 (Scope Development) and all subsequent phases.
    • Develop level 1 and level 2 schedules to support events as required.
    • Collaborate with a team of event specific scheduler resources in alignment with the client and site best practices.

    Turnaround Execution:

    • As part of the execution team, provide daily updates to the turnaround schedule with daily forecasts provided to execution team.
    • Monitor and report integrated schedule progress against plan and develop corrective actions if target KPIs are not achieved.
    • Analyze and report schedule progress and communicate with Event Manager and Coordinators.
    • Work with Cost Control Specialist to develop updated forecast spend and duration using earned value and actuals.

    Qualifications:

    • Compliance to Pre-site Drug & Alcohol testing
    • 5 – 10 years of Turnaround or Maintenance scheduling on a complex petrochemical facility experience is also a must.
    • Outstanding computer proficiency as well as a working knowledge of planning principles and Primavera (P6) skills.
    • Understanding of various trades to manage interferences in plans is required.
    • Must have good interpersonal skills with strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Excellent computer proficiency, especially in Word, Excel, Primavera (P6) & SAP.

    You are:

    Experienced working as a maintenance planner on a complex multi-plant Industrial/Petro Chemical facility. As the lead of a multi disciplined maintenance planning team that is integrated with our client you are exceptional at forming and maintaining positive relationships. With a solid understanding of maintenance planning, scheduling concepts, and performance metrics, you excel at working with the client and your team, clearly communicating and organizing tasks, complex topics, and changes. 

     Responsibilities

    • Accountable for the overseeing mechanical and E&I Planners for:
      • Develop detailed, logical, and comprehensive maintenance scopes of work ensuring all required resources including labor, materials, services, equipment, and tooling are included into the completed work package.
    • Stewardship to Stuart Olson and the client’s KPI’s to ensure adherence to business unit(s) and corporate objectives
    • Optimize the sequencing of released job plans by considering factors such as multi-craft alignment, travel, and permitting requirements, mobilization needs, and equipment transport logistics
    • Manage work within identified constraints, escalating unresolved issues beyond the role’s scope to the appropriate level (e.g. material arrival delays, labor capacity limitations)
    • Maintain the integrity of the backlog and understand outstanding work within area of responsibility
    • Collaborate with Execution, Planning, Reliability, and other stakeholders to ensure all work is valid and ready to schedule
    • Identify risks related to the work and develop safe work plans to mitigate found risks
    • Develop, maintain, and utilize a robust job plan library (task lists) for all types of work, including high frequency break-in work when required
    • Consult repair history of equipment where available to make informed decisions on work scopes and to identify potential repeat issues
    • Support implementation of reliability asset strategies; build and maintain required task lists in collaboration with program planners
    • Provide feedback to schedulers on baseline maintenance schedule, identify potential impacts to schedule as it relates to work orders.
    • Seek feedback on package quality and estimates from the field technicians and implement recommended changes.
    • Identify and implement improvements in workflow.
    • Assist site leadership in performance management and productivity evaluations by discipline.
    • Creating detailed long text task description for applicable parties.
    • Identify any Engineering requirements or additional safety concerns not previously captured

    Qualifications

    • Trade Certificate, Diploma, or Degree and a minimum of 5 years in a related maintenance-based trade or extended experience in a Petro-Chemical facility with maintenance-based field operations
    • About 10-15+ years’ experience with Oil & Gas, Petrochemical Facilities installations and maintenance work practices
    • Ability to read, understand and interpret terminology found in blueprints
    • Maintenance and/or plant facility experience
    • Advanced SAP and MS Projects
    • Seasoned knowledge in the application hazard analysis and risk assessment
    • Ability to forge, grow, and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups
    • Strong written and oral communication skills
