  • Mechanical Superintendent – 2026 Fall TA

    Our Offer to You:

    • Site: Saint John, New Brunswick
    • Schedule: Pre-turnaround schedule is 4 days on, 3 days off. Turnaround schedule to begin Fall 2026, 6 days on, 1 day off, 12 hours + a day.
    • Accommodations: LOA @ $150.00 per day worked

    Stuart Olson is searching for an experienced Superintendent to join us for our 2026 turnaround at our client site in Saint John, New Brunswick.  This job provides the opportunity to earn above average pay with overtime.     Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Site Manager and the Client, the superintendent will be responsible for the following:

    Safety & Compliance

    • Lead execution with a zero-incident safety mindset
    • Ensure compliance with site safety rules, permits, and refinery policies
    • Participate in toolbox talks, JSAs, hazard assessments, and incident investigations
    • Enforce lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space, hot work, and pressure testing protocols

    Field Execution & Supervision

    • Oversee all piping and mechanical activities including:
    • Line removal and reinstatement
    • Tie-ins and hot cuts
    • Valve replacements
    • Flange management
    • Spool installation
    • Hydrotesting and reinstatement
    • Vessel open/clean inspect
    • Supervise foremen and contractors to ensure productivity and quality
    • Resolve field issues, clashes, and constructability challenges in real time
    • Coordinate manpower, tools, equipment, and materials for scopes

    Schedule & Productivity

    • Execute work in alignment with the TA schedule and daily execution plans
    • Monitor progress, productivity, and constraint removal
    • Work with Planning to adjust sequencing and recover schedule when required
    • Participate in daily coordination meetings and provide accurate progress updates

    Quality Assurance

    • Ensure piping work meets drawings, specifications, and applicable codes (ASME, CSA, API)
    • Coordinate inspections, testing, and turnover documentation
    • Address deficiencies and punch list items promptly

    Coordination & Communication

    • Coordinate with:
    • Mechanical, Welding, Electrical, and Scaffolding Superintendents
    • Engineering and QA/QC teams
    • Client and refinery operations personnel
    • Support effective shift handovers and clear communication across crews

    Qualifications 

    • Journeyman certification and strong mechanical background
    • 10-15 years’ Industrial maintenance and turnaround experience
    • 5 years’ experience in a leadership role at a Superintendent level
    • CSTS 2020, First Aid and H2S
    • Valid Driver’s license
    • Solid understanding of the OH&S regulations
    • Evidence of exceptional leadership skills and ability to influence, mentor and coach
    • Ability to inspire trust in difficult situations by instilling confidence and engaging people on matters that affect them
    • Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships
    • Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them
    • Strong critical thinking, troubleshooting, presentation and problem-solving skills
    • Demonstrate a sense of urgency and strong commitment to achieving goals
    • Ability to work in challenging, fast paced environment
    • Superior written and verbal communication skills at multiple levels: client/owner representative construction site

    Working Conditions

    • Working both indoors and outdoors in hot and cold weather conditions
    • Working in and around noise and dust
    • Must be clean shaven
    • Working in confined spaces

     Physical Requirements

    • Stand or walk for long periods of time
    • Use arms and hands to reach for, handle or manipulate objects
    • Climb up and down ladders, scaffolds and other objects
